Most white wines show their best between 7°C and 13°C, depending on style. Light, crisp whites such as Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio are ideal at 7–10°C, while fuller‑bodied or oaked whites like Chardonnay benefit from being served slightly warmer at 10–13°C. Serving white wine too cold mutes aroma and flavour, while serving it too warm makes it taste flat and overly alcoholic.

“Dry” refers to the amount of residual sugar left in the wine after fermentation. A dry white wine has very little sugar remaining, meaning it tastes crisp rather than sweet. Wines such as Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio and many styles of Chardonnay are typically dry.

If you enjoy Sauvignon Blanc’s freshness and acidity, consider wines with similar brightness and aromatic lift. Excellent alternatives include Albariño, Pinot Grigio, Vinho Verde, Vermentino, Chablis and dry Riesling, all of which fall into the light, crisp white wine category served at similar temperatures.

Most opened white wines stay fresh for 2–5 days when refrigerated and sealed with their original cork or a wine stopper. Lighter whites tend to fade more quickly, while fuller‑bodied styles may last a little longer.
