World Brandy

World brandy refers to grape-based spirits produced outside traditional French regions like Cognac and Armagnac. These include distinctive styles from Greece, Germany, Italy, Spain, and South Africa. Each brand reflects its local heritage, grape varieties, and ageing techniques, resulting in a wide range of flavour profiles.

Greek brandy, such as Metaxa, is smooth and aromatic, with floral notes, honeyed sweetness, and hints of dried fruit. It combines aged brandy with Muscat wine and Mediterranean botanicals, offering a unique, mellow character that’s often enjoyed chilled or mixed.

German brandy like Asbach is refined and mellow, with flavours of vanilla, caramel, and subtle spice. It’s known for its smooth texture and balanced profile, making it ideal for sipping neat or in classic cocktails.

Italian brandy such as Vecchia Romagna is rich and full-bodied, with notes of dried fruit, toasted oak, and warm spice. Made from Trebbiano grapes and aged in oak, it delivers a bold, aromatic experience with a lingering finish.

Spanish brandy from Torres is elegant and rounded, offering flavours of toffee, nuts, vanilla, and dried fruit. Aged using the solera method, it develops smooth complexity and is well-suited to both sipping and mixing.

South African brandy, such as KWV, is layered and expressive, with spicy undertones, ripe fruit, and hints of oak and vanilla. Crafted using pot stills and aged in French oak, it’s known for its velvety mouthfeel and depth.
