Chenin Blanc originates in the Loire Valley, France, particularly in Vouvray, Anjou, and Savennieres. It is also widely planted in South Africa, where it is known as Steen, and has growing presence in California and Australia.

Chenin Blanc typically shows apple, pear, quince, citrus, honey, and floral notes with bright acidity. Loire Valley styles can be mineral and elegant, while South African Chenin Blanc often shows riper tropical fruit.

Chenin Blanc can be dry, off dry, sparkling, or sweet depending on the region and winemaking style. Vouvray produces everything from crisp dry wines to luscious moelleux, while South Africa focuses mainly on dry and lightly oaked styles.

Chenin Blanc pairs well with seafood, roast chicken, creamy sauces, Asian cuisine, and soft cheeses. Its acidity and versatility make it ideal for dishes from the Loire Valley, including goat cheese and river fish.
