Mullineux Signature Old Vines White Blend is a complex and vibrant wine from Swartland, South Africa, crafted from eight sustainably farmed parcels of old vines, some up to 68 years old, planted on schist, granite, and iron-rich soils. The blend of Chenin Blanc, Clairette, Semillon Gris, Grenache Blanc, Viognier, and Verdelho is hand-harvested, whole-bunch pressed, and fermented with indigenous yeasts in a combination of French oak barrels and a large foudre, spending 11 months on lees and undergoing natural malolactic fermentation, resulting in a fresh, textured wine with layered complexity and purity of fruit.

Meet the producer

Founded in 2007 by Chris and Andrea Mullineux in Riebeek-Kasteel, Mullineux has become one of South Africa’s most acclaimed wineries, celebrated for precision viticulture, old-vine fruit, and terroir-driven wines. The estate has been named ‘Winery of the Year’ four times by the Platter Guide and recognized internationally for its outstanding white and red wines.

Production

Grapes are hand-picked, chilled, whole-bunch pressed, and left to settle overnight. Minimal SO2 is added, and juice is fermented with indigenous yeasts in French oak barrels and a large foudre. The wine remains on its lees for 11 months, completing malolactic fermentation naturally, then is racked, blended, and bottled unfiltered.

Tasting notes

Lifted aromas of fresh peach, poached pear, orange blossom, and dried honey lead to a richly textured palate with notes of almond, yellow grapefruit, and ginger, finishing long, layered, and vibrant.
