The Tea Leaf Chenin Blanc is a naturally fermented, old bush vine wine that captures the wild, sun-soaked spirit of South Africa’s Western Cape. Sourced from vineyards where Chenin, Grenache Gris, and Marsanne vines grow intertwined with the indigenous rooibos (red tea) plants, this wine is a true expression of its terroir. The presence of rooibos contributes subtle aromatic complexity, while the coastal location imparts a bright, mineral freshness. Fermented naturally and aged in older 600-litre French oak barrels, the wine reveals a seamless marriage of vibrant fruit, delicate spice, and gentle texture, reflecting the care and precision of its hand-selected, early-morning harvest. Strange Kompanjie Unlimited is a playful, innovative band of winemakers exploring the quirks of the Cape’s lesser-known grape varieties, embracing natural fermentation and minimal intervention to let the vineyard speak.

Production
Grapes are harvested in the cool early hours, hand-selected at the winery, and naturally fermented. Aged in older 600-litre French oak barrels, the wine is coarse-filtered above 1 micron and receives no fining to preserve purity and texture.

Tasting notes
Aromas of ripe citrus and peach mingle with savoury, gently nutty notes. The palate is firm yet silky, with a sandy texture reflective of the vineyard soils, leading to a long, lightly honeyed finish.
