Rosé wine is a pink-hued wine made from red grapes, but unlike red wine, the grape skins are only left in contact with the juice for a short time—usually just a few hours. This brief skin contact gives rosé its signature blush colour and lighter body. It’s crafted using one of three main methods: skin contact, saignée (bleeding), or blending—though blending is rare outside of sparkling wine production.
Rosé can be dry or sweet, still or sparkling, and is made from a wide variety of grapes including Grenache, Syrah, Pinot Noir, and Sangiovese. Popular styles include the pale, crisp rosés of Provence, the fruitier White Zinfandel from California, and vibrant Italian rosatos. Flavour profiles often feature red berries, citrus, melon, and floral notes, making rosé a refreshing choice for warm weather or light meals.
