Burgundy Wines

Burgundy is known for producing exceptional Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, offering purity, finesse and a strong sense of place. Red Burgundy shows delicate red fruit, earth and fine tannins, while white Burgundy delivers citrus, stone fruit and mineral driven elegance. The region’s focus on terroir makes it one of the most influential wine areas in the world.

Burgundy is almost entirely dedicated to two grapes: Pinot Noir for red wines and Chardonnay for white wines. Smaller plantings of Aligoté and Gamay also exist, particularly in areas such as Bouzeron and Beaujolais. These varieties form the foundation of Burgundy’s global reputation for precision and quality.

Red Burgundy typically shows flavours of cherry, raspberry and cranberry with notes of earth, spice and forest floor. White Burgundy offers citrus, apple, pear and mineral tones, often with subtle oak influence. The style varies by village and vineyard, with each climat expressing its own character.

Burgundy is divided into Chablis, the Côte de Nuits, the Côte de Beaune, the Côte Chalonnaise and the Mâconnais. The Côte de Nuits is famous for powerful Pinot Noir, while the Côte de Beaune is known for both refined reds and world class Chardonnay. Chablis produces crisp mineral driven whites from Chardonnay.

Red Burgundy pairs well with roast chicken, duck, pork, mushrooms and earthy dishes that complement its delicate fruit and savoury notes. White Burgundy suits seafood, shellfish, poultry, creamy sauces and soft cheeses. Its balance and freshness make it versatile with both simple and refined cuisine.
