Ladoix Le Clou d’Orge is a refined village-level Chardonnay from the northern edge of the Côte de Beaune, crafted by Famille Gagey of Maison Louis Jadot. The vineyard lies just north-east of Aloxe-Corton, at the foot of the famed Corton hill, where gentle slopes, altitudes between 220 and 360 metres, and an east to south-east exposure create ideal conditions for producing elegant, mineral-driven white Burgundy. The soils are composed of clay and marls, with a shallow, stony profile that encourages naturally low yields and fine concentration.

Meet the Producer

Famille Gagey, part of the historic Maison Louis Jadot, has long been recognised for its commitment to expressing terroir with precision and authenticity. The vineyard for Ladoix Le Clou d’Orge has been cultivated by the domaine since 2007 and is now around twenty years old, producing fruit of increasing depth and character.

Production

Grapes are hand-harvested and placed into small cases to preserve their integrity. They are pressed gently before fermenting in oak barrels crafted by the CADUS cooperage, with around one-third of the barrels being new. The wine then matures for approximately 15 months on fine lees, gaining texture, complexity and a subtle oak influence before bottling.

Tasting Notes

This Ladoix offers a refined expression of Chardonnay, marked by subtle citrus, stone fruit and white floral notes. The palate is fresh, pure and delicately textured, supported by a fine mineral backbone that reflects its shallow, stony soils. Elegant, balanced and concentrated, it finishes with lift and persistence.

This versatile white Burgundy pairs beautifully with grilled red tuna, seared salmon, tataki beef, terrines, moussaka, veal liver, veal chop, fondue bourguignonne, steak tartare, roasted veal, duck breast salad, roasted guinea fowl or hard cheeses.
