  • False Bay Old School Syrah 2016 14% 75cl
Full yet elegant with bramble fruit aromas, cassis and black cherry flavours on the palate and a touch of white pepper spice (more in the northern Rhone mould than Barossa brawn) - structure provided by fine tannins with a long rich, ripe finish.

Embark on an adventure in Cape Terroir. The False Bay wines are sourced from some of the best sites across the Cape, brought together under the watchful care and attention of Waterkloofs winemaker Werner Engelbrecht. The Sauvignon Blanc is based on a parcel of very aromatic cool climate fruit from Durbanville, a small component of richer more ropical fruit from Paardeberg and even a small component from Paul Boutinots own Waterkloof estate in Stellenbosch, brought together to create a wine that is much more than the sum of its parts. Our unoaked Chardonnay is sourced from old low yielding vines in Roberston, our favourite area for fine taut Chardonnay with a pronounced minerality. The very wild (yeast) Chenin is from a small patch of old dry grown bush vines.

  • Dead Mans Fingers Small Batch Spiced Rum 37.5% 70cl

Dead Man’s Fingers Spiced Rum was released in 2015 by the owners of The Rum & Crab Shack, a delightful rum and seafood restaurant in picturesque St. Ives, Cornwall. The business proved so successful that they have also recently opened another Rum & Crab Shack in Exeter. To our knowledge, it's the first spiced rum to be blended and bottled in Cornwall.

Dead Man’s Fingers is a blend of Caribbean rums from Barbados and Trinidad that warms he cockles and stirs the soul; in other words, it is very tasty indeed! We get saffron cake, Pedro Ximinez ice cream, caramel and vanilla with cinnamon, nutmeg and orange notes. Delicious!

This is a very easy drinking spiced rum that can be enjoyed neat, over ice, or mixed with cola; once opened, a bottle of Dead Man’s Fingers tends to disappear rather quickly. As you can see from the reviews, this is very highly rated by people who have tried it and is one of our best selling rums of all time.

The rum takes inspiration from Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva, a premium rum from Venezuela. It was after one boozy night drinking this that Rum & Crab Shack owners Neythan Hayes and Chris McGuire decided to open the Rum & Crab Shack! You can read more about this on our blog ‘Dead Man's Fingers - Cornwall's Newest Small Batch Rum’.

  • Black Cow Pure Milk Vodka The Gold Top 40% 70cl
Black Cow vodka has been made in Dorset from grass grazed cows milk, which creates a wiondefully creamy smooth vodka. Pure Milk Vodka is the invention of West Dorset dairy farmer Jason Barber. His inspiration came from a desire to diversify the produce from his 250 strong dairy herd and his deep personal interest in vodka.

    HOW IS IT MADE?
The milk is separated into curds and whey. The curds are used to make cheese, the whey is fermented into a beer using a special yeast that converts the milk sugar into alcohol. This milk beer is then distilled and treated to our secret blending process. The vodka is then triple filtered and finished, before being hand bottled.

Incidentally Black Cow is made from the same milk that is used to make Barbers 1833 cheddar, winner of the World Cheese Awards Cheddar Trophy 2012

  • Pra Amarone della Valpolicella 2012 16.5% 75cl
This is a wine with great purity, grace and elegance (not usually associated with Amarone and with none of the dried, raisined characters). With a silky, velvety texture, flavours of luscious bitter cherry, dried orange peel, and ripe red fruit balanced by a complex and long finish, with lingering notes of chocolate ganache.
This 20 hectare estate in the commune of Monteforte D'Alpone in the very heart of the Soave Classico district is run by Graziano Pra. Universally regarded as one of a handful of world-class producers in Soave who have revitalised the region, Pra produce 5 wines based on Garganega, covering a wide spectrum of styles and flavours. The most celebrated is the opulent Monte Grande, awarded 'Tre Bicchieri' 5 years in a row. Arguably the intense, incisive, unoaked 'Staforte' takes the range to new heights but for us the most impressive achievement is the delicious 'basic' Soave Classico, described in the 2007 Gambero Rosso guide as 'an absolutely magnificent wine of which every wine enthusiast should have a few bottles tucked away'. In 2006 Graziano produced his first red wine from the Morandina vineyard in eastern Valpolicella, in the foothills of Monte Lessini. The Valpolicella was soon followed by an Amarone. The vineyard, 450 m above seal level, had never previously been cultivated - and is not treated with any chemicals.

  • Juan Gil Silver Label 12 meses 2013 Monastrell 15% 75cl
Densely coloured wine with a high impact impressive nose. Spice, cedar, toast and chocolate are layered with blackberry and plum. The palate has lots of juicy ripe plum, and a textural earthy chocolate sensation. Tannins build to the finish. A complex wine with great balance, concentration and length. The Gil family have been major producers in Jumilla since the early 20th century but took a major step forward when Miguel Gil, great-grandson of the company's founder, built a new bodega in time for the 2003 vintage. Situated on the slopes of the Penarubia mountain, the highest part of Jumilla with poor stony soils noted for its richly flavoured, concentrated Monastrell, the bodega owns about 400 hectares of vineyards and has access to further fruit from 30 to 50 year old vines. Bodegas Juan Gil is dedicated to producing powerful yet approachable and modern wines, mainly based on Monastrell (aka Mourvedre) which is grown on about 85% of the vineyard - other varieties grown are Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot and Petit Verdot.

    In the vineyard
The Monastrell grapes for this wine come from 40-year old parcels of estate vineyards. Shallow, chalky soils on a bed of limestone and rock, combined with an arid climate, produce the low yields (1,8 ton per acre) required for wine of this complexity.
    Press Quotes

Sweet, penetrating blackberry and lavender pastille flavours are complemented by smoky oak and vanilla nuances and show a hint of peppery spices. Finishes with lingering florality, smooth, even tannins and very good length. 90 points." Josh Raynolds, Stephen Tanzer's 'International Wine Cellar', Issue 170, September/October 2013

A rich swirl of Chenin characters with gentle ripe apple aromas, honeyed aromatics and delicious greengage and citrus lemon acidity on the long finish. The terrifically generous mouthfeel comes from the long, slow wild yeast fermentation.

Picking early in the morning, we de-stemmed the grapes before going into a separator. Free run juice was separated from the skins immediately and allowed to settle at 12 degrees Celcius for 24 hours. No enzymes were used to aid the settling & the press juice was discarded. No cultured yeasts were used and took 8 weeks to complete the fermentation. The wine was left on the secondary lees for another 5 months before bottling. A small portion of the wine was fermented & matured in new 600l French barrels.

A versatile wine equally well suited to partner lobster and other seafood, risotto or herb roast chicken..

Established by Paul Boutinot, False Bay Vineyards is a company that has grown out of many years of involvement in South Africa, which began at a time when their wines and potential was just being recognised. With knowledge and respect within the South African wine industry, Paul Boutinot has been able to source top quality grapes for the re-launch of False Bay. First discovered by sailors confusing it for Table Bay to the north, False Bay has long been a haven for those navigating the treacherous Cape of Good Hope. The cool coastal breeze which sweeps off the Indian Ocean temper the ripening process, extend the growing season and produce expressive wines with more precise varietal characters and purity.
