Meet the Producer

The Van Zeller family’s winemaking roots stretch back centuries, with the original Feuerheerd’s brand founded in 1815 by German trader Dietrich Matthias Feuerheerd. Today, under the stewardship of Barão de Vilar and head winemaker Álvaro van Zeller, the estate continues to craft expressive, terroir‑driven wines from the Douro Valley. Their approach blends deep regional heritage with modern precision, resulting in wines that are both authentic and beautifully polished.

Production

Grapes are sourced from traditional Douro vineyards planted on schist soils, where low yields and intense summer heat produce naturally concentrated fruit. After careful selection, the grapes undergo controlled fermentation with measured extraction to build structure without harshness. The blend is assembled to balance richness, freshness and aromatic complexity, creating a wine that is dark, intense and harmoniously layered — a true reflection of the Douro’s character.
