Optima is a rich and expressive red wine sourced from the premium vineyards of Franschhoek and Darling. Its nose is layered and nuanced, with aromas of blackberries, hedgerow fruits, mocha, and subtle spicy notes. On the palate, the wine is plush and rounded, yet structured and layered with dark fruitcake, black cherry, baking spice, and delicate hints of pencil shavings. The tannins are refined and integrated seamlessly with the ripe fruit and gentle oak influence, giving the wine a supple, silky mouthfeel and a long, elegant finish. Optima combines depth, complexity, and freshness, making it both approachable and age-worthy.

Production
Grapes are hand-picked from select vineyards and transported in small lug boxes to preserve quality. In the winery, whole berries are carefully sorted using an optical sorting machine. Fermentation occurs in a combination of large concrete tanks and stainless steel, followed by extended skin contact for up to five days to extract depth and structure. Each parcel is matured separately for 20 months in 225L French oak barriques, 30% of which are new, before blending and bottling. The wine is then aged in bottle for an additional two years to achieve harmony and balance.
