Viognier Wines

Viognier comes from the northern Rhone Valley in France and is most famously grown in Condrieu and Chateau Grillet. It has since spread to Languedoc California Australia and South Africa where warmer climates enhance its ripe stone fruit character.

Viognier typically shows peach apricot tangerine honeysuckle and floral notes with a soft full bodied texture. Wines from Condrieu are highly aromatic while those from Languedoc and California can be richer and more tropical.

Yes Viognier is often blended with Syrah in the northern Rhone especially in Cote Rotie where a small amount of Viognier adds perfume and lift. It is also blended in Languedoc and Australia to create aromatic white wine styles.

Viognier pairs well with dishes from southern France spicy Asian cuisine roast chicken seafood curries and creamy sauces. Its aromatic profile also complements Moroccan dishes and lightly spiced Mediterranean meals.
