Vina Cobos
Viña Cobos is one of Argentina’s most influential modern wineries, founded by renowned winemaker Paul Hobbs after his first visit to Mendoza in 1989. Crossing the Andes from Chile, he was struck by the landscape, the people and the untapped potential of the region. Early experiments with wild fermented Chardonnay and small batch Malbec convinced him that Argentina could produce world class wines. In 1999 he established Viña Cobos, a project dedicated to crafting wines that express the purity and character of Mendoza’s finest terroirs. More than twenty years later, the winery is recognised for its precision, elegance and deep respect for the land.

A Landscape of Altitude and Intensity
Viña Cobos works with vineyards in Luján de Cuyo, Maipú and the Uco Valley, ranging from 2300 to 3835 feet above sea level. These high altitude sites experience dramatic temperature shifts between day and night, which slow ripening and preserve natural acidity. The long growing season and semi desert conditions create fruit with exceptional concentration and purity. Irrigation is essential in this environment, and yields are kept low to maintain intensity, typically around 3.2 tons per hectare. These conditions form the foundation of the winery’s distinctive style.
A Vision Shaped by Exploration and Craft
Paul Hobbs approached Mendoza with curiosity and a desire to understand its soils and microclimates. His early work with Malbec helped elevate the grape to global recognition, and his commitment to site specific winemaking has shaped the identity of Viña Cobos. The winery focuses on the most distinguished areas of Mendoza, producing wines that reflect the individuality of each vineyard. Over time, Viña Cobos has become a reference point for modern Argentine winemaking, admired for its balance, finesse and authenticity.
The Viña Cobos Style
The winemaking philosophy at Viña Cobos centres on natural practices and meticulous care. Fermentation is encouraged with indigenous yeasts, which allows each vineyard to express its own character. The wines are bottled without fining or filtration to preserve texture, depth and a persistent finish. Organic principles guide vineyard management. Waste is composted, organic fertilisers are used and inter row grasses help fix nitrogen in the soil. Solar energy supports the winery, and proceeds from recycled materials fund nutrition programmes and local community initiatives. This thoughtful approach results in wines that are pure, expressive and deeply connected to their origins.
Viña Cobos Wines
Bramare Malbec is a powerful yet refined expression of Mendoza’s high altitude vineyards. It offers ripe blackberry, plum and violet with hints of cocoa and spice. The wine combines richness with freshness, supported by polished tannins and a long, balanced finish. It is a benchmark for modern Argentine Malbec.
Bramare Cabernet Sauvignon showcases the structure and depth that Cabernet can achieve in Mendoza. Expect cassis, black cherry, graphite and subtle herbal notes, all shaped by firm but elegant tannins. The wine reflects the purity of fruit that comes from high altitude sites and careful vineyard management.
Vinculum Chardonnay is crafted to highlight freshness, texture and site expression. The wine shows citrus, white peach and gentle floral notes with a touch of minerality. Indigenous fermentation and careful ageing create a Chardonnay that is vibrant, layered and beautifully balanced.
Vinculum Malbec offers a refined and expressive style with lifted aromatics and a supple, silky palate. Red and black fruit mingle with floral tones and subtle spice. The wine reflects the elegance that Malbec can achieve when handled with restraint and respect for terroir.
Marchiori Estate Malbec is one of the most celebrated wines in the Viña Cobos portfolio. Sourced from one of Mendoza’s most distinguished vineyards, it delivers exceptional concentration, depth and complexity. Dark fruit, graphite, tobacco and fine tannins come together in a wine that is both powerful and graceful. It has outstanding ageing potential and stands among the finest single vineyard Malbecs in Argentina.
