Kakheti wine is shaped by warm continental weather, alluvial and clay soils and Georgia’s ancient qvevri method, which ferments grapes in buried clay vessels. This creates structured, aromatic wines linked to one of the world’s oldest winemaking cultures.
Saperavi leads the reds, while Rkatsiteli dominates the whites. Kisi, Mtsvane and Khikhvi also thrive, offering a wide range of Georgian styles from fresh to deeply textured.
Qvevri winemaking has been practiced in Kakheti for thousands of years, allowing grapes to ferment with skins and stems for depth, tannin and complexity. This method defines much of the region’s identity.
Many Kakhetian reds and amber qvevri wines age beautifully, gaining savoury depth, spice and complexity. Saperavi in particular has excellent ageing potential.
Saperavi suits grilled meats, stews and Georgian dishes like khinkali, while amber wines pair with cheese, roasted vegetables and spiced cuisine. Fresh whites complement salads and lighter fare, reflecting the region’s vibrant, traditional style.
