Colombard originates in southwest France and is most widely grown in Gascony especially in the Cotes de Gascogne region. It is also an important grape in Armagnac production and has become popular in South Africa and California for fresh fruit driven white wines.

Colombard typically offers zesty citrus green apple passion fruit and melon flavours with high acidity. Wines from Cotes de Gascogne are crisp and light while South African Colombard can show riper tropical notes.

Yes Colombard is one of the traditional grapes used to produce Armagnac in southwest France. Its naturally high acidity and fresh fruit profile make it ideal for distillation alongside Ugni Blanc and Folle Blanche.

Colombard pairs well with seafood from the French Atlantic coast fresh salads goat cheese sushi and light Mediterranean dishes. Its bright acidity makes it a great match for oysters prawns and grilled fish.
