Tuscany Wines
Tuscany is one of Italy’s most iconic wine regions, celebrated for its Sangiovese based reds that combine bright acidity, cherry fruit and savoury depth. Home to famous appellations such as Chianti Classico, Brunello di Montalcino and Bolgheri, Tuscany produces everything from traditional long aged wines to modern Super Tuscans. Its landscapes, heritage and diversity make it a cornerstone of Italian wine.

Tuscany is known for producing expressive Sangiovese based wines with flavours of cherry, plum, herbs and spice. The region includes world renowned appellations such as Chianti Classico, Brunello di Montalcino and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. Tuscany also produces acclaimed Super Tuscans, often blending Sangiovese with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
Sangiovese is the dominant grape in Tuscany and forms the backbone of most traditional wines. International varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Franc are widely used in coastal areas and in Super Tuscans. Whites include Vernaccia, Trebbiano and Vermentino.
Tuscan reds typically show flavours of sour cherry, red plum and dried herbs with bright acidity and firm tannins. Brunello offers depth and longevity, while Chianti Classico is vibrant and aromatic. Coastal wines from Bolgheri tend to be richer and more structured, often with dark fruit and subtle oak.
Key sub regions include Chianti, Chianti Classico, Montalcino, Montepulciano, Bolgheri, Maremma and San Gimignano. Each area has its own style, from the elegance of Chianti Classico to the power of Brunello di Montalcino and the modern Bordeaux influenced blends of Bolgheri.
Tuscan reds pair well with pasta dishes, tomato based sauces, grilled meats, roast lamb, game and aged cheeses. Their acidity and savoury character complement rustic Italian cuisine. Tuscan whites such as Vernaccia and Vermentino pair well with seafood, salads and light Mediterranean dishes.
