Where Land and Legacy Meet

Esporão’s vineyards stretch across rolling plains shaped by schist, granite and clay‑limestone soils, all influenced by the region’s warm, dry climate. These natural conditions give the wines their generous fruit, depth and structure, while the estate’s lakes and surrounding biodiversity help moderate temperatures and support sustainable farming. Esporão has long been a leader in organic viticulture in Portugal, with many of its vineyards certified and the estate committed to regenerative practices that protect the land for future generations.

A Story Rooted in the Alentejo

The estate’s history is tied to the ancient lands of Reguengos de Monsaraz, where wine has been made for centuries. When José Roquette and Joaquim Bandeira founded Esporão in the 1970s, they set out to create wines that would elevate the reputation of the Alentejo both at home and abroad. Over the decades, Esporão has expanded its vineyards, modernised its winery and embraced sustainability, all while preserving the cultural and agricultural heritage of the region. Today, it remains one of Portugal’s most respected producers, known for consistency, authenticity and a strong sense of place.

How Esporão Shapes Its Wines

Esporão’s winemaking is guided by a philosophy of patience, precision and respect for the land. Grapes are harvested by hand, fermented in a mix of stainless steel, concrete and traditional vessels, and aged carefully to preserve freshness while building complexity. The estate works with both native Portuguese varieties such as Aragonez, Trincadeira, Touriga Nacional and Antão Vaz and international grapes that thrive in the Alentejo’s climate. The result is a portfolio that balances richness with elegance, offering wines that are expressive, approachable and unmistakably Esporão.

Esporão Reserva Red is the estate’s flagship wine, crafted from a blend of classic Alentejo varieties. It shows ripe dark fruit, warm spice, cocoa and subtle oak, supported by a generous palate and refined tannins. This wine captures the depth and warmth of the region while maintaining balance and freshness.

Esporão Reserva White

Esporão Reserva White is one of Portugal’s most recognisable white wines, known for its richness, texture and vibrant acidity. Expect notes of citrus, peach, almond and gentle oak, shaped by partial barrel fermentation and extended lees ageing. It is a benchmark for premium Alentejo whites.

The Colheita range highlights Esporão’s commitment to organic farming, offering pure, fruit‑driven wines made from estate‑grown grapes. Both styles reflect a modern, sustainable approach to Alentejo winemaking.
