A House Defined by Pinot Noir and Patience

Bollinger’s identity is rooted in Pinot Noir, which forms the backbone of nearly all its wines. The house works with a high proportion of estate fruit, including rare plots of ungrafted vines, and ages its reserve wines in magnums under natural cork. This approach creates depth, complexity and a signature toasty richness. The style is powerful yet refined, shaped by long lees ageing and a commitment to traditional methods.

Bollinger's Craft and Continuity

The house rose to international fame in the mid‑20th century under the leadership of Lily Bollinger, whose dedication to quality helped define the modern style. Today, Bollinger continues to balance heritage with innovation, producing wines that remain benchmarks for structure, longevity and character. The portfolio includes iconic cuvées such as Special Cuvée, La Grande Année and the limited‑release PN series.

How Bollinger Shapes Its Wines

Winemaking at Bollinger focuses on barrel fermentation, extensive reserve wine usage and long maturation. Special Cuvée alone incorporates reserve wines aged in magnums for up to 15 years. The house’s own cooperage maintains barrels used for fermentation, preserving a style that is both traditional and distinctive. This careful approach results in Champagnes with richness, structure and remarkable ageing potential.

Special Cuvée

Special Cuvée is the purest expression of the Bollinger style. It combines power and finesse, with notes of ripe apple, brioche, toasted nuts and subtle spice. The high proportion of Pinot Noir gives structure and depth, while long ageing on lees adds complexity. It is one of Champagne’s most recognisable non‑vintage cuvées and a benchmark for richness and balance.

Bollinger PN Series

The PN series is a limited‑edition exploration of Pinot Noir from specific crus and vintages. Each release highlights a different village, such as Aÿ or AYC18, and showcases the grape’s depth, minerality and precision. Expect flavours of quince, citrus, honey and subtle spice, supported by a firm, elegant structure. These cuvées offer a focused, terroir‑driven interpretation of Bollinger’s signature grape.

La Grande Année

La Grande Année is Bollinger’s prestige vintage cuvée, produced only in exceptional years. It is barrel‑fermented and aged extensively, resulting in a Champagne of remarkable intensity, texture and complexity. Expect layers of citrus, stone fruit, toasted brioche, hazelnut and mineral depth. La Grande Année is crafted for longevity and is considered one of the great vintage Champagnes.

Bollinger Rosé

Bollinger Rosé blends the structure of Pinot Noir with the freshness of Chardonnay and the charm of red wine from La Côte aux Enfants. The wine offers red berry fruit, citrus, subtle spice and a refined, creamy texture. It is vibrant yet elegant, with the depth and complexity that define the house style.
