Sourced from carefully selected vineyards on the Douro's steep schist terraces, this is a balanced, elegant red that reflects both the tradition and refinement of modern Douro winemaking.

The Smiling Donkey is produced by Barao de Vilar, the estate that revived the Feuerheerd's brand in 2010, uniting the Van Zeller and Barros families, two dynasties with centuries of Douro winemaking history. Vineyard and Production

Grapes are sourced from carefully selected vineyards within the Douro DOC, where schistous soils and steep riverbank terraces contribute depth and minerality. The fruit is hand-picked and fermented in stainless steel tanks to preserve freshness and varietal character. A portion of the blend is then aged for nine months in French oak, enhancing structure and adding layers of spice and toasted notes while maintaining a smooth, supple texture throughout.
