Description
Andresen LBV Port is an exceptional Late Bottled Vintage Port produced in the prestigious Douro Valley of Portugal. Crafted by J.H. Andresen under the expert guidance of Master Blender Álvaro Van Zeller, this bottling captures the power, richness, and depth of a single outstanding harvest. Matured in seasoned oak casks for four to six years before bottling, it offers the concentrated dark fruit and structure of a classic Vintage Port with the immediate accessibility and smooth elegance of a cask-aged style.
Why You'll Love It
This wine stands out for its luscious intensity, velvety texture, and ready-to-drink approachability. Unlike classic Vintage Ports that require decades of bottle cellaring, Late Bottled Vintage Ports spend extended time maturing in oak vats to soften their tannins while preserving vibrant berry fruit. It delivers a rich, indulgence-filled glass brimming with black fruits, dark chocolate, and warm spice, offering a luxurious tasting experience without the need for decanting.
Vineyard & Production
The grapes were harvested from steep, sun-drenched terraced vineyards across the Cima Corgo sub-region of the Douro Valley, featuring traditional indigenous grape varieties. The hand-picked fruit underwent foot-treading and temperature-controlled fermentation in granite lagares, with fermentation halted at the ideal sweetness level through fortification with neutral grape spirit. The wine was then matured in large oak vats for several years, allowing its intense tannins to integrate gracefully before being bottled.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it showcases an opaque, deep ruby-purple colour. The nose is rich, brooding, and expressive, bursting with lifted aromas of black cherry, ripe blackberry, and plum preserve, alongside nuances of violet, dark cocoa, and sweet liquorice spice. On the palate, it is full-bodied, dense, and mouth-filling, offering layers of opulent dark berry fruit supported by ripe, velvety tannins and a gentle streak of warming alcohol. The finish is remarkably long, smooth, and satisfying, leaving a lasting impression of dark chocolate and dark fruit.
Perfect Pairings
Best served at room temperature or slightly cool between 14 and 16 degrees Celsius, this Late Bottled Vintage Port is a magnificent partner for rich desserts and fine cheeses. It pairs exceptionally well with dark chocolate tarts, forest fruit crumbles, sticky chocolate puddings, and chocolate-covered cherries. It is also an outstanding match for strong blue cheeses such as Stilton, Gorgonzola, or Roquefort, as well as toasted nuts and dried figs.
