Cantine San Marzano was founded in 1962 by 19 vine growers whose families had farmed the land for generations. Over the decades, the cooperative has grown to include more than 1,200 high-quality vine growers. Combining traditional Apulian winemaking methods with modern technology, San Marzano produces elegant wines that showcase the distinctive character of the region’s terroir. The winery has been recognised for excellence, receiving the ‘Cooperative Winery of the Year Award’ from Gambero Rosso.

Vineyard
The Primitivo vines for Tramari are grown in Salento, Puglia, at approximately 100 metres above sea level. The vineyard enjoys a Mediterranean climate with high temperatures and moderate-to-low rainfall. The soil is clayey with a rocky sublayer, providing excellent drainage and promoting concentration in the grapes. Vines are planted at a density of 4,500 per hectare and are carefully managed to ensure consistent quality and flavour. Harvest is carried out by hand in early September to capture optimal ripeness.

Winemaking
After harvesting, the grapes undergo a short period of skin contact maceration to extract aromatic compounds and subtle colour. A portion of the must is gently drawn off before fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to preserve the delicate aromatics and fresh fruit character. The wine is then aged in stainless steel, retaining its vibrant freshness and elegance.

Tasting Notes
A delicate pale rosé with vibrant aromas of wild cherries, red berries, and a subtle touch of Mediterranean herbs. The palate is tangy yet balanced, elegantly styled with a slightly off-dry character, leading to a refreshing, lingering finish.
