San Marzano 62 Anniversario Primitivo di Manduria Riserva 2020 is a richly expressive Primitivo crafted from some of the oldest bush vines in Manduria, many over sixty years of age. Grown on iron-rich red soils with fragments of limestone and cooled by gentle Mediterranean breezes, the grapes reach exceptional concentration and natural ripeness. Hand-harvested at dawn to preserve freshness, the fruit undergoes slow fermentation and extended maceration to draw out deep colour, lush texture and fragrant complexity. The wine is then matured in French and American oak barrels, allowing its intense black fruit, spice and velvety tannins to harmonise into a beautifully opulent, luxurious expression of Primitivo di Manduria.

Cantine San Marzano, founded in 1962 by a group of local growers, has become a leading force in Puglian winemaking. Known for their masterful work with old-vine Primitivo, the estate combines traditional viticulture with modern precision, producing wines that reflect both heritage and innovation.

Production

Grapes are hand-picked from low-yielding old vines and sorted meticulously to ensure perfect ripeness. Fermentation takes place at controlled temperatures with gentle extraction to enhance depth and structure. The wine is matured in a mix of French and American oak barrels to integrate flavours and elevate its natural richness, resulting in a polished, powerful and seamless final wine.

Tasting Notes

Deep, almost opaque ruby in colour, the wine offers an opulent nose of black cherry, plum, sweet spices, cocoa and vanilla. The palate is full-bodied, silky and richly layered, with ripe dark fruit, hints of liquorice and mocha, and a warm, long-lasting finish framed by velvety tannins.
