The Estate Red is Klein Constantia’s signature Bordeaux-style blend, crafted to showcase the character of the Constantia Valley. Combining elegance with structure, it reflects the estate’s granitic soils and cooling sea breezes that bring freshness and balance to the wines.

Meet the producer

Klein Constantia, founded in 1685, is one of South Africa’s most historic estates, located on the foothills of Table Mountain overlooking False Bay. Long celebrated for its legendary Vin de Constance, the estate also produces exceptional red blends that marry tradition with contemporary winemaking.

Production

The 2020 vintage was a blend of classic Bordeaux varieties—Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Malbec—with smaller proportions of other grapes depending on the year. Grapes were hand-harvested, destemmed, and fermented in stainless steel, followed by maturation in French oak barrels for around 12–18 months to integrate tannins and develop complexity.

Tasting notes

Deep ruby in colour, the Estate Red shows aromas of blackcurrant, plum, and dark cherry, with hints of cedar, graphite, and spice. The palate is structured yet supple, with ripe tannins supporting flavours of cassis, red berry fruit, and subtle oak. The finish is long, elegant, and finely balanced.

Food match

Pairs beautifully with roast lamb, beef dishes, venison, or rich vegetarian options like mushroom ragù. Serve at 16–18°C.
