Description
Description
Andresen Colheita 1995 Tawny Port is a distinguished single-vintage Tawny Port produced in the world-renowned Douro Valley of Portugal. Crafted by J.H. Andresen under the expert guidance of Master Blender Álvaro Van Zeller, a Colheita represents the pinnacle of wood-aged Port, originating from a single exceptional harvest. Matured in seasoned oak casks for decades before bottling, this expression delivers an exquisite balance of rich maturity, refined complexity, and remarkable elegance.
Why You'll Love It
This wine stands out for its extraordinary depth and the singular snapshot it offers of the outstanding harvest. Unlike multi-vintage Tawny blends, this single-harvest Port has spent over a quarter of a century gently oxidising in small oak casks. It displays an alluring array of tertiary aromas, combining luscious dried fruit sweetness with roasted nuts, warm spices, and a silky, lingering palate that feels effortlessly indulgent.
Vineyard & Production
The grapes were harvested in 1995 from prized, sun-drenched vineyard terraces across the Douro region, featuring classic indigenous varieties such as Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, and Tinta Barroca. Traditional foot-treading and temperature-controlled fermentation took place in granite lagares, with fermentation halted at the ideal sweetness level by fortifying the wine with neutral grape spirit. The wine was then placed into traditional 600-litre oak casks to age gracefully in the cool cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia until bottling.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it showcases a deep amber colour with mahogany highlights and a delicate tawny rim. The nose is complex and highly aromatic, bursting with notes of dried figs, sultanas, orange marmalade, and toasted walnuts, alongside accents of nutmeg, cigar box, and dark caramel. On the palate, it is smooth, rich, and impeccably balanced, featuring a luscious texture counteracted by a vibrant thread of natural acidity. The finish is remarkably long, dry, and warm, leaving a lasting impression of toasted almonds and sweet wood spice.
Perfect Pairings
Best served slightly chilled between 12 and 14 degrees Celsius, this single-vintage Tawny Port is a magnificent partner for rich desserts and fine cheese. It pairs exceptionally well with pecan pie, sticky toffee pudding, caramelised tarts, and crème brûlée. It is also an ideal match for blue cheeses such as Stilton or Roquefort, toasted nuts, dried figs, and dark chocolate desserts.
