Maule wine is shaped by old bush vines, granite and clay soils and a cooler climate that helps Carignan, País and Cabernet Sauvignon develop freshness, texture and depth. This creates expressive wines linked to Chile’s oldest winemaking traditions.
Carignan, País and Cabernet Sauvignon dominate, with Merlot, Carménère and Malbec also thriving. These grapes flourish across dry farmed vineyards and varied soils, offering a wide range of Chilean wine styles.
Carignan thrives in Maule’s old vine, dry farmed sites, producing vibrant, structured reds with bright acidity and deep flavour. Its revival has helped redefine the region’s identity and highlight its heritage vineyards.
Many Maule reds age beautifully, especially Carignan and Cabernet Sauvignon from old vines. Their natural acidity, structure and concentration allow them to develop complexity over time.
Carignan pairs well with grilled meats, roasted vegetables and rustic dishes, while País suits lighter fare such as charcuterie and stews. Cabernet complements lamb, beef and hearty sauces, reflecting the region’s traditional, generous style.
