Bacchus Wines

Bacchus typically shows flavours of elderflower, gooseberry, lime and green apple with notes of hedgerow herbs and soft floral tones. It has fresh acidity and a lively aromatic profile, giving it a bright and refreshing character. Many styles resemble a lighter, softer take on Sauvignon Blanc.

Bacchus is primarily grown in England and Wales, where it thrives in cool maritime conditions. It is also planted in Germany, where it originated, and in small quantities across northern Europe. In the UK it has become one of the most recognisable still wine varieties.

Bacchus shares some similarities with Sauvignon Blanc, such as citrus, herbs and aromatic lift, but it tends to be softer and more floral. It often shows elderflower and hedgerow notes that distinguish it from the more intense tropical or grassy character of Sauvignon Blanc.

Bacchus pairs well with seafood, salads, goat cheese, asparagus, sushi and light vegetarian dishes. Its crisp acidity and herbal notes complement dishes featuring lemon, herbs and fresh green flavours. It is especially good with spring and summer plates.

Bacchus is used to produce dry aromatic whites, off dry styles and occasional sparkling wines. Most expressions focus on freshness and floral citrus driven character, while some producers craft more textured versions with lees ageing.
