Marques de Riscal XR Special Release Reserva Magnum is a refined and elegant red wine from Rioja, Spain. Crafted from 95% Tempranillo and 5% Graciano, it is medium-bodied with 15% ABV and showcases the hallmark smoothness and structure of a premium Rioja with extended oak influence.

Marques de Riscal, founded in 1858, is one of Spain’s most historic wineries. Known for pioneering modern winemaking in Rioja, the estate combines tradition with innovation, including its state-of-the-art “City of Wine” facility designed by Frank O. Gehry.

Production

The XR Special Release is selected from barrels historically marked with XR by the enologist for exceptional qualities. The grapes are carefully harvested, fermented, and aged extensively in oak, allowing the wine to develop polished tannins, depth, and complexity while remaining expressive of its terroir.

Tasting notes

Intense black-cherry colour with depth. Aromas of liquorice, cinnamon, and black pepper are layered with subtle oak notes, concentrated blueberries, blackcurrants, and balsamic hints. The palate is structured yet elegant, with a firm backbone and polished tannins, culminating in a long, persistent finish.

Pairs beautifully with pulses, poultry, lamb chops, sweetbreads, stews, roasts, or grilled/barbecued meats.
