Tohu Awatere Valley Sauvignon Blanc is a vibrant and expressive wine sourced entirely from vineyards in Marlborough’s spectacular Awatere Valley. Bursting with aromas of passionfruit, citrus zest, and fresh herbs, this wine captures the purity and intensity of its cool-climate origin. The palate is layered with tropical fruit, bright lemon and lime, and crunchy green apple, all supported by a distinctive zesty minerality. Crisp, lively, and elegant, it finishes long and dry with exceptional freshness and focus.

Meet the Producer

Tohu Wines is New Zealand’s first Māori-owned wine company, established with a deep respect for the land and a philosophy rooted in kaitiakitanga—guardianship and care for the environment. Each Tohu wine reflects its place of origin and the connection between people, culture, and nature.

Production

Select blocks from across the Awatere Valley are harvested using modern machine harvesters that maximise flavour and aroma extraction from the grape skins. Once at the winery, the grapes are gently pressed into stainless steel tanks for cold settling, before being racked and inoculated with selected yeasts to enhance the wine’s aromatic profile. Fermentation occurs at cool temperatures over approximately 21 days to preserve freshness and varietal purity. After fermentation, the wine rests briefly on yeast lees before being racked and matured in stainless steel tanks to maintain clarity and vibrancy.

Maturation

The wine is matured in stainless steel tanks on fine lees for a short period to enhance texture, mouthfeel, and complexity while retaining crisp acidity and pure fruit expression.

Pale straw in colour with green hues, this Sauvignon Blanc displays lifted aromas of passionfruit, citrus zest, and fresh herbs. The palate reveals layers of tropical fruit, lime, and green apple with a crisp mineral backbone and a long, clean finish.
