Taylor’s Quinta de Vargellas 2019 is a single-quinta vintage Port from one of the Douro Valley’s most iconic estates, offering a powerful yet elegant expression of the year’s exceptional growing conditions.

The 2019 vintage is drawn exclusively from the Vargellas estate, located in the remote eastern reaches of the Douro Superior. The vineyard’s steep, terraced slopes and schist-rich soils produce grapes of remarkable intensity and finesse. The growing season was marked by a dry, warm summer and ideal harvest conditions, allowing for slow, even ripening and excellent fruit concentration.

Winemaking

Traditional foot-treading in granite lagares is used to extract colour and tannin, followed by fermentation under controlled temperatures. The wine is aged in seasoned oak vats for two years before bottling, with no filtration, preserving its purity and ageing potential.

Tasting Notes

Taylor’s Quinta de Vargellas 2019 pours a deep purple-black with magenta highlights. The nose is polished and expressive, revealing aromas of raspberry, cherry, and wildflowers, layered with botanical notes of herbs, ferns, and wood shavings. On the palate, it is compact and spicy, with linear tannins and vibrant acidity. Flavours of black fruit, bitter chocolate, and graphite unfold with impressive length and quiet power. The finish is long and resonant, marked by freshness and mineral tension.

Food Pairing

Pairs beautifully with blue-veined cheeses, walnuts, dried figs, and rich chocolate desserts. Also excellent as a contemplative after-dinner drink.
