Sandeman 20-Year-Old Tawny Port NV is a sophisticated and elegant Port from Portugal’s Douro Valley, crafted from a blend of Tinta Amarela, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Roriz, Tinto Cão, Touriga Franca, and Touriga Nacional. This aged Tawny combines concentrated fruit from old vines with decades of oxidative ageing in oak, producing a rich, complex wine with a long, layered finish.

Founded in 1790, Sandeman is renowned worldwide for its iconic ‘Don’ logo, created in 1928. Now part of Sogrape, Sandeman has invested heavily in vineyards and winemaking practices, ensuring that their Ports achieve both quality and consistency. The winery’s dedication to traditional methods and sustainable practices has made Sandeman one of the leading names in premium Port.

Production

Grapes are sourced from prime vineyards in the Cima Corgo sub-region, including the Quinta do Seixo estate. Old vines contribute concentrated fruit with low yields. The schist soils and steep, terraced slopes allow vine roots to access deep water and nutrients, while the challenging terrain ensures manual vineyard work. Grapes are destemmed and gently crushed before fermentation in granite lagares with traditional treading. Fermentation is halted by fortification with grape spirit to retain natural sugars. The wine then undergoes extensive oxidative ageing in oak barrels, with this 20-Year-Old Tawny blended from wines aged 15 to 40 years.

Tasting notes

Rich tawny in colour, the nose offers pronounced aromas of dried fruits, honey, and roasted nuts, complemented by subtle spices of vanilla and cinnamon. On the palate, sweetness and acidity are perfectly balanced, with complex flavours evolving into an exceptionally concentrated, long, and elegant finish.
