Sela is a refined expression of Rioja Alta, produced from bush vines of Tempranillo, Graciano, and Garnacha, planted near Haro. The vineyard’s low yields encourage phenolic maturity, resulting in concentrated aromas and depth of flavour. Following 19 days of maceration, the wine is aged for 12 months in 100% semi-new French oak, allowing the fruit to integrate seamlessly with subtle oak nuances. Sustainable viticulture practices are applied to preserve the health and character of the vineyards.

Meet the producer

Sela was first introduced in 2008 and has become a benchmark for carefully crafted Rioja Alta wines. The estate focuses on balance, elegance, and concentration, producing wines with both structure and expressive aromatics.

Production

Grapes are hand-harvested from 15–30-year-old bush vines. After destemming and gentle crushing, the must undergoes 19 days of maceration. The wine is then transferred to 100% semi-new French oak barrels for 12 months of ageing. Minimal intervention allows the terroir and grape character to shine.

Tasting notes

Bright and clean in colour, with layered red hues. The nose is intense, showcasing red fruits such as cherry and hints of black fruit, layered with subtle mineral and oak notes. On the palate, the wine is wide and voluminous with fine, well-structured tannins, ripe fruit concentration, and a long, persistent finish.

Food match

Serve at room temperature. Ideal with rich dishes such as roasted venison, beef fillet, or hearty stews.
