Ramos Pinto were the original pioneers of quality winemaking in the Douro, a legacy that continues today and has been widely adopted throughout the region. Duas Quintas takes its name from the two estates where the grapes for the wines are grown – Quinta de Ervamoira and Quinta do Bons Ares. Quinta de Ervamoira, located in a rocky, hot, and dry area along the banks of the river Côa, contributes density and body to the wines and was the first Douro estate to plant individual vineyard blocks with a single variety carefully matched to soil and climate. Quinta do Bons Ares, a higher elevation granite vineyard, provides cool growing conditions, adding freshness, vivacity, and aromatic lift. Duas Quintas wines showcase the best of the Douro: full-bodied, fruit-forward, and structured with a long finish.

Vineyards

The grapes for this wine are sourced from the two Ramos Pinto estates. Quinta de Ervamoira provides ripe, concentrated fruit, while the higher-altitude Quinta do Bons Ares delivers balance, freshness, and vibrancy. Grapes are hand-harvested plot by plot and taken to the winery for vinification.

Winemaking

Grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness and separated by variety and vineyard plot. At the winery, they are destemmed, gently crushed, and directed to a variety of fermentation vessels including lagares, oak vats, concrete, and stainless steel tanks, selected based on the character of each plot. Extended maceration between must and skins enhances body and structure. After fermentation, 20% of the wine is matured in French oak barrels, 30% in casks and vats of the same wood, and the remaining 50% in stainless steel vats for approximately 12 months.

Tasting Note

The wine is dark red, clean, and bright. Aromas of fresh berries, including blackberries, raspberries, and strawberries, are complemented by gentle spice and warm toasty notes. On the palate, the wine is concentrated and vibrant, with pronounced fruit intensity, soft tannins, and a long, balanced finish.
