Pio Cesare Barolo is a classic expression of Nebbiolo from the Piemonte region, showcasing the elegance and structure of this iconic grape. It is made from a combination of family-owned vineyards in Serralunga d’Alba, Grinzane Cavour, La Morra, and Barolo-Novello, alongside select grapes from long-standing grower partners.

Meet the producer

Founded in 1881 by Cesare Pio, Pio Cesare is a historic, family-owned estate based in Alba, Piemonte. The estate has been producing Nebbiolo and other traditional Piedmontese wines for generations, with a focus on quality, site expression, and classic winemaking techniques.

Production

Grapes are fermented in stainless steel tanks with around 20 days of skin contact to extract colour, tannin, and aromatics. The wine is then aged for three years in mid-toasted French oak—70% in large casks (20–50 hectolitres) and 30% in barriques—to balance structure and elegance.

Tasting notes

On the nose, the wine displays ethereal aromas of violets, blackberry jam, liquorice, and cloves. The palate is dry and austere, with fine tannins and a lingering note of almonds on the finish.
