Paul Hobbs Russian River Valley Pinot Noir is an exceptionally refined, benchmark red wine produced in the foggy heart of Sonoma County, California. Masterfully crafted by world-renowned winemaker Paul Hobbs, this estate-level expression showcases the unique cool-climate microclimates and ancient soils of the Russian River Valley. Renowned for its meticulous attention to detail and low-intervention philosophy, this bottling delivers a harmonious synthesis of rich Sonoma fruit intensity and Burgundian elegance.

Why You'll Love It

This wine stands out for its silk-like texture, vibrant aromatic complexity, and pristine structural balance. Sourced from exceptional hand-farmed vineyard sites subject to the region's famous diurnal temperature swings and coastal fog, it offers brilliant fruit concentration matched by crisp natural acidity. Matured carefully in French oak, it delivers an indulgent yet deeply layered drinking experience brimming with dark cherry, earthy complexity, and subtle baking spice.

Vineyard & Production

The grapes are hand-harvested at night from select hillside and benchland vineyards throughout the Russian River Valley, planted in Goldridge yellow-apple soils. Upon arrival at the winery, the fruit undergoes rigorous sorting before undergoing a cold soak and spontaneous fermentation using indigenous yeasts in small open-top stainless steel tanks. The wine is gently pressed and transferred to French oak barrels, a portion of which is new, where it ages for over a year. It undergoes natural malolactic fermentation and is bottled unfined and unfiltered to preserve its full aromatic integrity and textural depth.

Tasting Notes

In the glass, it displays a radiant ruby-garnet colour. The nose is highly expressive and complex, revealing vibrant aromas of red cherry, wild raspberry, and crushed pomegranate, alongside fragrant hints of violet, forest floor, and warm cinnamon spice. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, supple, and beautifully layered, offering generous flavours of dark berries, blood orange zest, and a touch of black tea. Silky, polished tannins and a refreshing beam of acidity carry through to a long, graceful finish.

Perfect Pairings

With its velvety texture, aromatic lift, and balanced acidity, this premium Pinot Noir is a remarkably versatile companion for fine dining. It pairs magnificently with pan-roasted duck breast with a cherry reduction, herb-crusted rack of lamb, roasted pork tenderloin, and seared salmon fillets. It is also an outstanding match for wild mushroom risotto, truffled pasta dishes, and mild creamy cheeses such as Brie or Gruyère.
