Papagiannakos Assyrtiko 2023 75cl
Description
Description
A crisp and characterful Assyrtiko from the sun-drenched Attican peninsula, where limestone soils and the influence of the Aegean Sea create a wine of bright citrus fruit, salinity and refreshing acidity.
Meet the producer
Founded in 1919, Domaine Papagiannakos lies in the heart of the Mesogaia plain in Attica, just 30km from Athens. Today the estate is known for combining traditional Greek varieties with modern winemaking, showcasing the unique character of its coastal terroir.
Production
Produced from 100% Assyrtiko grapes grown on unirrigated limestone soils at around 100m altitude in north-east Attiki. Grapes are harvested at the end of August, fermented and matured in stainless steel at controlled temperatures (16–18ºC), with a short period on fine lees for texture. The wine sees no oak, preserving freshness, and is matured in bottle for up to a year before release.
Tasting notes
Floral aromas of citrus blossom, mandarin and lime lead to a zesty, textured palate. Crisp citrus fruit is layered with chalky minerality and a hint of salinity, giving freshness and balance. A lively and versatile Assyrtiko with subtle depth and ageing potential.
Food match
Perfect with griddled swordfish, seafood dishes, or roast belly pork.
