North Star Islay Connection 10 Year Old opens with a sense of place that’s unmistakably Islay, but it doesn’t rush. The first impression is a soft bloom of peat smoke rising through sea air, carrying hints of citrus peel, vanilla cream and a gentle malt sweetness. There’s a coastal sharpness in the background, like wet stone and sea spray, that sets the tone before the whisky even touches your palate.

Once it does, the whisky broadens out beautifully. The smoke becomes richer and more layered, mingling with dark berries, stewed plums and honeyed barley. There’s a lively pepperiness that lifts the sweetness, followed by toasted oak, smoked almonds and a savoury brine that ties everything back to its island roots. The bourbon and sherry casks show themselves in waves: caramel and warm spice from one, dried fruit and depth from the other. It feels both robust and controlled, with the natural strength giving it presence without harshness.

As it fades, the finish stretches on with a steady warmth. The peat softens into embers, leaving behind salted toffee, gentle spice and a lingering maritime note that feels like the echo of a shoreline fire.
