North Star’s 30 Year Old North British Single Grain is the kind of whisky that reminds you just how elegant well‑aged grain can be. After three decades in cask, the spirit has softened into something silky and deeply layered, with the sweetness of the grain spirit merging beautifully with long, patient oak maturation. Bottled at 50.2%, it has enough strength to carry its flavours without ever feeling hot or sharp.

It opens with a gentle wave of vanilla pods, honeycomb and polished oak, followed by hints of coconut cream, soft caramel and a touch of old library dust that only long ageing can bring. There’s a warm, rounded fruitiness underneath—dried apricot, baked apple and a little orange oil—wrapped in a mellow sweetness that feels almost dessert‑like.

On the palate it’s smooth and velvety, offering rich toffee, crème brûlée, buttery pastry and sweet grain notes that glide across the tongue. The oak influence is refined rather than dominant, adding cinnamon, nutmeg and a little toasted wood. As it develops, more subtle flavours appear: light tobacco leaf, golden syrup, a hint of almond and a soft, creamy texture that makes the whisky feel indulgent without being heavy.

The finish is long, warming and graceful, lingering with vanilla fudge, gentle spice and a final echo of sweet oak. It’s a beautifully mature grain whisky—elegant, comforting and quietly complex, the kind of dram that rewards slow sipping and a bit of reflection.
