Meet the producer

Founded in 1859 by George Francis Morris, the Morris family has been at the heart of Rutherglen winemaking for generations. Today, Morris of Rutherglen continues to uphold this legacy, combining traditional fortified wine methods with a dedication to preserving the region’s distinctive character and quality.

Production

The winery’s 80 hectares of vineyards are planted on red loam over red and yellow podzolic clay soils, ideal for producing wines of great flavour and richness. Vines are hand-pruned and dry-grown, yielding small crops of intensely flavoured fruit. Grapes are hand-harvested at high sugar levels (15–16 baume), partially fermented, then fortified with a high-strength neutral spirit to halt fermentation. The young wines are transferred to oak casks for maturation and later blended from various vintages to achieve balance, depth, and consistency — showcasing both youthful vibrancy and aged complexity.

Tasting notes

Deep brown with an amber rim, the wine opens with aromas of rose petals, preserved fruits, and roasted nuts. The palate is rich and luscious, layered with flavours of sweet spice, caramelised fruit, and dried fig. The finish is long, smooth, and beautifully balanced between sweetness and freshness, with an average barrel age of around eight years.
