Montes Folly Syrah Apalta  is a concentrated and elegant expression of Chilean Syrah, sourced from the steepest slopes of Apalta’s Finca Apalta, one of the country’s finest vineyard sites. The granite soils, low yields, and cool breezes create grapes with remarkable intensity, aromatic purity, and structure. This wine displays a deep red colour with purple hues, combining ripe black fruits, spice, and subtle oak integration for a complex and harmonious profile.

Meet the producer

Montes was founded in 1988 by Aurelio Montes, Douglas Murray, Alfredo Vidaurre, and Pedro Grand with the ambition to craft the finest wines in Chile. Renowned for meticulous vineyard and winemaking practices, Montes has become synonymous with quality and consistency, producing wines that express the character of their unique terroirs.

Production

Grapes are sourced from a single parcel on Apalta’s highest slopes, planted on 45° gradients with Guyot-trained vines. Low-yielding vines produce small, concentrated berries. After harvest, grapes undergo dual sorting—first by camera-assisted machine, then by hand. Cold soaking at 10°C for five days enhances colour and aroma extraction, followed by fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for 12–15 days. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels (80% new, 20% third-use) to develop complexity and structure.

Tasting notes

Deep red with purple hues, the nose is rich with ripe black fruits, including blueberry and blackberry, complemented by notes of leather, black pepper, and sweet spices. French oak integration adds nuances of tobacco, vanilla, and toast. The palate is structured and elegant, with round tannins, balanced acidity, and a long, pleasing finish.
