Aged extensively in American oak barrels and then in bottle, the wine develops its signature harmony of vibrant fruit, gentle spice and refined structure. Meet the Producer

Founded in 1890, La Rioja Alta is one of the region’s most prestigious and traditional bodegas. Known for their meticulous barrel ageing, long maturation periods and unwavering commitment to quality, they craft wines that embody the classic Rioja style. Their cellars in Haro’s historic Barrio de la Estación are home to thousands of American oak barrels, coopered in‑house to maintain absolute control over style and character.

Production

Tempranillo is harvested from the estate’s high‑altitude vineyards in Fuenmayor and Cenicero, while Garnacha comes from old bush vines in the warmer Rioja Oriental. After fermentation, the varieties are aged separately in American oak barrels for several years, with regular rackings to ensure clarity and integration. The final blend is assembled and given extended bottle ageing before release, allowing the wine to achieve its hallmark complexity, silkiness and balance.

Tasting Notes

Ruby red with garnet highlights, the wine opens with aromas of red cherry, dried strawberry, vanilla, sweet spice and hints of leather and tobacco. The palate is elegant and medium‑bodied, offering refined red fruit, subtle oak, savoury undertones and beautifully polished tannins. A long, graceful finish carries notes of spice, dried herbs and gentle warmth, showcasing the wine’s maturity and poise.
