KWV The Mentors Pinotage is a rich and expressive red wine from Stellenbosch, reflecting the true varietal character of modern-styled Pinotage. The nose shows abundant blackcurrants and plums, with subtle hints of fruitcake and cloves. The palate is concentrated and layered, with sweet fruit, well-integrated oak, and silky-smooth tannins, culminating in a juicy, round, and seamless finish.

Meet the Producer

KWV is a leading South African winery renowned for combining modern winemaking techniques with respect for the country’s diverse terroirs. Their Mentors series represents the pinnacle of varietal expression, producing wines of precision, balance, and complexity from Stellenbosch’s ancient soils.

Production

Fruit is hand-selected through a meticulous three-step process, including selective picking in the vineyard and both bunch and berry sorting at the KWV cellar. A small portion undergoes natural fermentation, while the remainder is cold-soaked and inoculated. Fermentation is carefully controlled at 26°C over six days, with pressing before completion to preserve soft tannins and fruit integrity.

Maturation

The wine is matured for 18 months in oak barrels, 85% French and 15% American, with 70% being first-fill, ensuring depth, structure, and harmonious oak integration.

Tasting Notes

Deep ruby in colour, the wine offers aromas of blackcurrants, plums, fruitcake, and cloves. The palate is full and concentrated, with sweet fruit, silky tannins, and a long, balanced finish.
