KWV The Mentors Petit Verdot is a concentrated and elegant red wine from Stellenbosch, showing the full expression of this bold varietal. The nose is perfumed with cranberries, sweet spice, black olives, and a hint of aniseed. On the palate, rich plums and dark cherries mingle with well-integrated grippy tannins, leading to a long, intense, and lasting finish.

Meet the Producer

KWV is a leading South African winery known for producing terroir-driven wines that showcase the unique character of Stellenbosch. The Mentors series highlights the winery’s finest varietals, crafted with precision and care to achieve expressive and structured wines.

Production

Grapes are hand-harvested at optimal ripeness and meticulously sorted in the cellar. After two days of cold maceration, the juice is inoculated with a selected yeast strain. Fermentation lasts approximately six days, with regular pump-overs to extract colour, flavour, and structure. The wine is racked off the skins, settled, and transferred to barrels for malolactic fermentation.

Maturation

The wine is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, 70% of which are first-fill. During this period, the wine is carefully racked twice to ensure clarity and balance, producing a polished and harmonious finish.

Tasting Notes

Intense ruby in colour, the wine opens with aromas of cranberries, sweet spice, black olives, and aniseed. The palate is rich and juicy, with dark cherries, plums, and well-integrated tannins, culminating in a long, structured finish.
