Iona is one of South Africa's most celebrated cool-climate estates, situated in the Elgin Valley at altitude, where the cool maritime influence of the nearby ocean creates ideal conditions for producing wines of exceptional freshness, precision, and aromatic complexity. A meticulous approach in both vineyard and cellar ensures that every release reflects the unique character of this extraordinary terroir.

Vineyard and Production

Each soil type and aspect of the Sauvignon Blanc vineyards is carefully matched with different clones to capture the full range of flavours the variety can express. Blocks are vinified separately using reductive practices and selected yeasts to preserve freshness and aromatic intensity. A small addition of Semillon enhances mid-palate weight and complexity, while lees stirring adds the unmistakable texture that is a hallmark of the Iona style.

Tasting Notes

Pure white grapefruit, intense tropical fruit, ripe gooseberry, and fleshy kiwi fruit overlay distinctive herbal and floral undertones on the nose. The palate is keenly balanced, with cut green apple and lime marmalade followed by great minerality and a long, focused finish.
