Description
Description
For more than 180 years, a passion for wine has been passed from one Faiveley generation to the next. Still family-run today under the 7th generation, Erwan and Eve Faiveley continue to honour the traditions and savoir-faire that define the Domaine while embracing a forward-looking approach. Their commitment to excellence has led to dedicated teams in both the Côte d’Or and Côte Chalonnaise, a meticulous barrel programme, and the construction of a state-of-the-art winery in Mercurey. Recent renovations to their historic cellars in Nuits-St-Georges further reflect their pursuit of precision and quality.
The result is a collection of classic, elegant Burgundies known for their aromatic finesse, longevity, and unmistakable style—cementing Faiveley as one of Burgundy’s leading producers.
Vineyards
Clos Rochette lies next to the famed La Framboisière vineyard, known for its powerful reds. Here, the compact clay-limestone soils are strewn with small stones—giving the site its name and contributing to the richness and complexity of the white wines produced. A Faiveley Monopole since 1933, the parcel covers 5.45 hectares, with vines planted between 1960 and 2017.
Winemaking
Hand-harvested and meticulously sorted, the grapes are pressed pneumatically before settling. Fermentation lasts four weeks, with 55% of the must vinified in French oak barrels (25% new) and the remainder in stainless steel. The wine is then aged for 16 months, including regular bâtonnage, allowing delicate oak notes to integrate while preserving freshness and the vineyard’s distinctive character.
Vintage Information
The season opened with a mild winter and typical rainfall, followed by April frosts that spared most vines, with only Bourgogne Chardonnay and Givry parcels lightly affected. Warmth and timely rain accelerated growth through spring, and May marked record heat and dryness. June storms replenished water reserves, helping the vines withstand a hot, dry summer.
Harvest took place under bright, warm skies, yielding exceptionally ripe and healthy fruit. Picking began on 27 August in the Côte Chalonnaise and concluded on 10 September near Marsannay. This was Faiveley’s first fully organic growing season, marking the beginning of formal conversion towards organic certification.
Tasting Note
This wine opens with an intricate bouquet of white flowers, lemon sherbet and subtle spices. The palate delivers tension and precision, supported by the smooth, weighted texture brought by its oak maturation. Layers of ripe yellow fruit unfold towards a refined finish accented with fresh apricot.
Food Pairing
Perfect with vol-au-vents, delicate fish dishes, shellfish, oysters and mussels.
