El Viejo del Valle Pinot Noir is an exceptionally elegant, fresh, and expressive red wine produced in the high-altitude vineyards of the Central Valley in Chile. The winery is celebrated for crafting cool-climate wines that highlight the natural purity, delicate fruit character, and mineral tension of South America's most exciting winemaking regions. Sourced from vineyards benefiting from cool Andean breezes and coastal ocean fogs, this Pinot Noir showcases a refined, European-style restraint coupled with vibrant New World fruit clarity.

Why You'll Love It

This wine stands out for its silky texture, bright berry fruit purity, and effortless elegance. Pinot Noir can be challenging to cultivate, but the unique microclimate of these high-altitude Andean foothills provides the ideal conditions for slow, balanced ripening. Matured gently to preserve its delicate aromatics and refreshing acidity, it offers an alluring bouquet of wild strawberries, red cherries, and subtle forest floor nuances, held together by supple, fine-grained tannins that make it remarkably food-friendly.

Vineyard & Production

The grapes are carefully harvested from select cool-climate vineyard sites planted on well-drained alluvial and gravelly soils near the base of the Andes mountains. To preserve the fresh fruit aromatics, the grapes are picked during the cool morning hours and subjected to strict sorting upon arrival at the winery. The fruit undergoes a gentle cold soak prior to fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks using native and selected yeasts. A short period of aging in seasoned French oak barrels adds delicate structural nuance without masking the bright, primary berry fruit.

Tasting Notes

In the glass, it displays a pale, translucent ruby-red colour with bright crimson reflections. The nose is charming, aromatic, and lifted, offering scents of fresh wild strawberries, ripe raspberries, and red cranberries, layered with subtle notes of dried herbs, clove spice, and damp earth. On the palate, it is light to medium-bodied, smooth, and refreshing, delivering vibrant red berry flavours supported by a fine beam of crunchy acidity and soft, silky tannins that flow into a clean, savoury finish.

Perfect Pairings

With its light-to-medium frame, bright acidity, and gentle tannin profile, this Chilean Pinot Noir is an incredibly versatile partner at the dining table. It pairs magnificently with pan-seared duck breast, roasted pork tenderloin with cranberry glaze, grilled salmon, and herb-roasted chicken. It is also an excellent match for mushroom risotto, goat's cheese tarts, beetroot salads, and charcuterie boards.
