Blandy’s Duke of Sussex is a three-year-old dry Madeira crafted from Tinta Negra, Madeira’s only indigenous red grape variety. Known for its versatility, Tinta Negra produces wines that can range from rich and full-bodied to crisp and dry, making it perfectly suited to this refined, dry style. This Madeira showcases the island’s traditional winemaking techniques while offering a smooth, elegant profile ideal for both sipping and pairing with food.

Vineyards

The Tinta Negra grapes are carefully selected from vineyards across Madeira, where altitude, humidity, region, and sun exposure influence the style and intensity of the wine. The diverse terroirs allow for a harmonious expression of flavour and structure in the finished wine.

Vinification

Produced using Blandy’s traditional ‘Estufagem’ system, the wine undergoes a controlled heating process in stainless steel tanks with externally heated water jackets. This method develops the wine’s signature soft, caramel character while preserving freshness and complexity.

Maturation

After estufagem, the Duke of Sussex is rested to allow flavours to integrate and the texture to soften, resulting in a well-balanced, approachable Madeira with a nuanced depth.

Tasting Notes

This dry Madeira displays a light amber colour with aromas of toasted nuts, caramel, and subtle spice. The palate is smooth and elegant, featuring crisp acidity, a gentle mineral edge, and a long, satisfying finish.
