Domaine Vacheron Sancerre Rouge ‘Belle Dame’ 2021 is an elegant and expressive single-vineyard Pinot Noir grown on flint (silex), limestone, and marl soils. The 30–50-year-old vines impart a refined structure and mineral tension, while the careful ageing for twelve months in French oak barrels followed by twelve months in 25hl oak casks adds subtle spice and complexity. The result is a wine of precision, showing vibrant red fruit, gentle toasty notes, and a layered, persistent finish.

Meet the producer

Over 120 years ago, Maurice Vacheron, the great-grandfather of the current owners, founded the domaine with just one hectare of vineyard. Today, cousins Jean-Laurent and Jean-Dominique Vacheron continue the family legacy, establishing Domaine Vacheron as one of the most respected historical producers of the Sancerre AOC. Certified biodynamic since 2005, the estate combines tradition with a Burgundian approach, vinifying by terroir and producing wines that vary subtly from year to year. The vineyards are farmed without synthetic chemicals, using only compost as fertiliser, and all fruit is hand-harvested to ensure quality and concentration.

Production

The ‘Belle Dame’ Pinot Noir is carefully vinified using indigenous yeasts in stainless steel, cement tanks, and open-top wooden fermenters to preserve the purity of the fruit. After fermentation, the wine is aged in a combination of French oak barrels and large casks to develop texture, complexity, and a gentle oak influence. Bottling is done unfiltered and unfined, respecting the lunar cycle.

Tasting notes

Bright and clear in colour, with aromas of ripe red cherries, raspberries, and hints of delicate forest floor. The palate is refined and silky, balancing vibrant fruit with subtle oak spice and a flinty minerality. The wine finishes long and precise, revealing the purity and elegance of its flint-rich terroir.
