The Domaine Lafran-Veyrolles 2020 is a bold, expressive red from one of the top producers in its region. With notes of bay leaves, menthol, and wild bramble fruits, it combines layered complexity, velvety tannins, and a hint of redcurrant, making it both intriguing and approachable.

Meet the Producer

Domaine Lafran-Veyrolles boasts superb terroir and is widely recognised as one of the top three estates in the region. Managed by Jean-Marie Castel, who brings modern oenology training to the family estate, the domaine blends traditional techniques with updated, temperature-controlled facilities to enhance quality and consistency.

Production

Vineyards are worked manually, with organic-inspired weed and pest control (though not certified organic). Grapes are hand-picked, left un-destemmed, and gently crushed, then fermented for 15–21 days in temperature-controlled vats (25–31°C). The wine matures in large oak barrels for 18–24 months, before bottling without filtration or fining and cellaring until the following April to ensure refinement and depth.

A vibrant nose of bay leaves and menthol leads to wild, crunchy bramble fruits, redcurrant, and subtle bracken. The palate is rich and velvety, with layered complexity and a long, harmonious finish.
