The fruit for this wine is grown principally on the Estate Vineyard near the Chateau, as well as on our Stornetta Vineyard in the rolling hills of Western Carneros. This blend exhibits the most fragrant characteristics present in select lots from both of these vineyards.

The wine is fermented in small open-topped tanks and then aged for 10 months in French Oak Burgundy barrels. The barrels used in the ageing of the Avant-Garde Pinot Noir are specially selected from cooperages that complement the aroma and flavour profile of this wine.

The newest and most-fruit forward in our collection of pinot noirs, Domaine Carneros Avant-Garde Pinot Noir was created to be the vanguard of the vintage, heralding the particular fresh fruit qualities of the Carneros Region. The Avant-Garde is intensely aromatic with notes of raspberry jam, blackberries, cassis, baking spices and hints of dried roses and orange peel. It is fresh and lively on the palate, with a delicacy and balance that invites pairing with simply prepared dishes like grilled or braised salmon, chicken, veal or pork. This wine will also enhance the vibrant flavours of Californian and Mediterranean cuisine.

Carneros experienced a late wet spring, which was followed by almost idyllic growing conditions. The harvest began about two weeks later than normal as a result of the delayed spring bloom.
