Cramele Recaș Estate was revitalised in 1988 when three families invested in 650 hectares of underdeveloped vineyards and a neglected, formerly state-owned winery. Today, under the stewardship of Englishman Philip Cox and his Romanian wife Elvira, Recaș has grown into Romania’s most successful winery, renowned for both its scale and the breadth of its wines. The estate produces a wide range of styles, including natural and orange wines from organic grapes, and combines modern facilities with meticulous attention to quality. The vineyards are a mix of old vines and newer plantings, offering both character and consistency in the wines.

Viticulture

The grapes for this wine are hand-harvested from the Dealul Tiganului, Odobești, and Murfatlar vineyards, ensuring careful selection and optimal ripeness.

Winemaking

The fruit is destemmed and lightly crushed, then chilled to 8°C for an eight-hour maceration. Twenty per cent of the juice from each tank is drained for rosé, after which the must is decanted for 24 hours and inoculated with selected yeasts. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel, temperature-controlled tanks for four weeks at 12°C. To retain a rounded, fresh character, fermentation is halted by cooling to 0°C, leaving a residual sugar of 4.5 g/l.

Tasting Note

This Pinot Noir is lively and expressive, with raspberry and floral aromas leading to a palate of crisp strawberry, Gala apple, and subtle spice. The wine finishes zesty and refreshing, making it a vibrant and approachable expression of Romanian Pinot Noir.
